Erro no boot do Ubuntu

Depois de formatar uma partição no hd, o boot do Ubuntu dá esse erro:
fsck died with exit status 8
File system checed failed
log …
Please repair the filesystem manually
A maintenance shell will now be started.
CONTROL-D will terminate this shell and resume boot.
